low stakes posting today reminds me that 1) Facebook is for talking to people you know IRL but don’t like and 2) microblogging sites are for talking to people you don’t know but do like.

we forget these things at our peril

I agree with you in principle, I just need a detailed .pdf that lays out the political and policy path you propose, accounting for all possible contingencies. No, I will not fund your research into this matter.
I'm here willing to read anything someone puts together that details how we can get from here to there

I'm all for universal healthcare. Tell me how we get there.

There's a lot of people I respect who cannot come to terms with the fact that this is what the American people voted for, they're getting it good and hard, and there is little to nothing a minority party can do to stop it.

Republicans ran on a platform of mass deportation and they're delivering.
This is outright Nazi stuff, and Democrats in Congress aren’t doing enough to try and stop it.
WaPo reports that ICE is planning 7 massive human warehouses holding 5,000 to 10,000 people.

Recalls the acting ICE director 2015 statement that he wanted to see a “business”-oriented approach to deportations, “like [Amazon] Prime, but with human beings”.

Kubrick was murdered because they didn’t want him to make a warhammer 40k movie.
I don't really believe the conspiracy theories about Kubrick being murdered but I do absolutely believe in the theory that the Victor Zeigler character was based on/inspired specifically by Jeffrey Epstein.

Some Dems have told themselves only ~1% of the population is trans so they can dip their toe in the anti-trans filth and come out clean.

I don't have any trans family members—but it still makes me irate. I see it as a huge red flag, a sign you are unprincipled and untrustworthy. And I'm not alone.
We are parents of a trans kid and our family takes this very, very personally. If you intentionally make life harder for our beloved daughter, it’s EXTREMELY hard to think of you as an ally, to say the least. @amyklobuchar.com - you still send us requests for money, while hurting our kid. Disgusted.
Here are the 28 Dem Senators who voted to advance the first federal ban on trans athletes & a federal definition of sex that would make trans & intersex people non-existent: Angela Alsobrooks (MD), Tammy Baldwin (WI), Richard Blumenthal (CT), Lisa Blunt Rochester (DE), Chris Coons (DE), ->

There's a dark triad for predatory scammer types: refusing to pay their bills; constantly name-dropping and social-climbing in pursuit of new marks; escalating depravity as if in an attempt to see if there's anything they can't get away with. The problem is that millions of Americans are like this.

Yeah, the problem with what I guess I'll call Ezra Klein-style liberalism is that it holds that ideas work like tokens that do not have any inherent moral valence, you can trade them and exchange them and they do not actually say anything about the person holding them

Here in Boston, the Black community threatened violence after learning that promoters of "BIRTH OF A NATION planned to stage a reenactment on Boston Common featuring men wearing Klan robes. This was to occur just steps away from the Shaw-54th Massachusetts Monument.
one thing that is important to know is that BIRTH OF A NATION is so racist that people at the *time*, in 1915, were like, “holy shit this is racist”
When the slightest bit of research shows he was consistently racist and a daddy issues Confederate fanboy.

People try to paint BIRTH OF A NATION as a masterpiece with some unfortunate racism. The whole movie is racist, the “masterpiece “ thing was backfilled to excuse it.

"porch piracy" is theft. it's illegal in every single state. in states with expansive statutes, this could even be burglary. there is no evidence that local police or prosecutors are unable to handle this. and existing federal law on interstate transportation of stolen property can handle big cases.

by far the most encouraging thing about the second Trump term has been the extent to which ordinary people, tasked with the execution of the very system of justice this administration wishes to corrupt, have said absolutely the fuck not

our institutions are failing but our people are not
JUST IN: Assistant U.S. Attorney Jeffrey Snell just confirmed, at the prodding of U.S. Magistrate Judge Keri Holleb Hotaling, that this motion for dismissal followed a "no bill" from a grand jury.

That means the grand jury refused to indict.
U.S. prosecutors in Chicago are dropping another case tied to Operation Midway Blitz, "without prejudice."

It's USA v. Nathan Griffin. Below is the motion, followed by excerpts from the complaint.

The feds don't say why they're dropping it, but they had until today to secure an indictment.

a larger percentage of Americans believed that we faked the moon landing than believed that Joe Biden did not have dementia. also, and no one discovered this until after the election, he had the aggressive cancer he will almost certainly die of during the campaign.
If the choice was between Biden & Trump, the people who voted for Harris would've mostly come around. The big unknown is how many people who voted for Biden in 2020, but didn't vote for Harris would have come around. I'm not the only one who thinks sexism & racism were a factor.

I really do worry about the degree to which we rhetorically entrench Murc’s Law in pursuit of being pre-disappointed.
I’ll put it this way: I have significantly more optimism that we can beat this particular set of fascists than I do that Dems will do what is necessary not to hand the country right back over to the next batch four year later
