Everything about AI is the worst thing about AI, but the worst thing for me is its tone of chipper flattery ("You're right!"), a tone that people apparently love to hear directed at them. I feel like a mutant because every time people talk like that to me I start looking for the hidden knife.
The frequency with which this is happening is so bleak and depressing. Knowing a book has no AI before beginning it, and paying for it, and spending time on it, shouldn’t be a guessing game.

I once got a compliment on my dress from another woman and my response was simply, “Thanks. It has pockets!” and she said, “Isn’t it sad how little it takes to please us?” and that comment has lived rent fucking free in my head ever since.

For decades, Penguin Random House has proven that you can just zoom in on a royalty free image, add a black banner along the bottom, and then place the title on the banner in a bold white font, and people will not only find them beautiful but buy them!
Every writer who generates a slop image for their work is a class traitor.

"I can't afford a visual artist"

So your solution is stabbing artists in the back? Stealing from them?

Furthermore, slop-generated imagery suggests slop-generated writing. That's how you're presenting yourself.

One thing you will never think after reading a great book or listening to a great album or seeing a great piece of art is, “I’m really glad this person remained cautious while they were making this and guarded against being perceived as weird.”

The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

I think the bigger problem will be when it's inevitably revealed that there's no machine learning analyzing these images, but instead contractors in India given 2.3 seconds to score a photo of a toilet bowl against a copy of the Bristol stool chart hanging in their cubicle.
