annual repost of Trashed Bathrooms
when I was in college, a part of our university's graduation requirements had a community service component that they called service learning. one of my service learning classes involved work at a local homerless community center, helping people write resumes and cleaning bathrooms. our instructor told us to expect to see the bathrooms trashed a lot - like you will clean the bathroom and immediately someone will wreck it. and it's not because they disrespect your work or don't value having access to clean bathrooms or whatever, but because of control. when you feel like you have no control over your life or your environment, your brain is going to want to assert control however it can. which results in thrashed bathrooms. it's control exercised over one small part of your environment that you still have the power to affect. i see kids on tumblr using the language of social justice as cudgels on people who actually do care about and listen to them. or holding the creators within their own communities to an impossibly high standard that they never apply to mainstream media properties. i just see thrashed bathrooms. 'These are the people my voice actually reach,' they rationalize, 'so these are the people I'll hurt'. but the guiding principles of social justice are aimed at correcting and dismantling systems. stop using them to dismantle people.

prokopetz Sep 14, 2016 If you think about it, all these thinkpieces about how Millenials are “killing” various industries reveal a pretty colossal sense of entitlement. Under normal circumstances, if a given industry finds itself unable to sell products to a given market demographic, we’d say it’s that industry’s fault for failing to offer products that that demographic is interested in buying. It only makes sense to blame the target demographic itself is if we’re assuming that the established industries have some intrinsic right to that demographic’s disposable income that’s being denied - which is clearly nonsense. And I thought Millennials were supposed to be the entitled ones?

The rest of the comic strip is drawings of various enclosures, moderately well rendered, a savannah with some bushes, a pile of boulders, a body of water, and some trees, all populated with incredibly poorly drawn animals, some so far off from their base as to be inscrutable, though you can see what is probably a lion, some apes, a penguin, a hippo, and a lemur and a giraffe.

Lost by Jean Grey Blog. One time I was leaving a friend's place and an older lady with basically no English came up to me and communicated that she was very cold and needed a ride. She pointed to tell me where to go. I got there and her daughter or granddaughter came out and was like omg her phone died we were worried And then the older lady said something and the younger lady translated. 'She knew she could trust you because you have pink hair" I thought it was funny at the time. But when I think back on it I think she was basically saying "you had a visible sign of not vibing with the system I was afraid of" Be weird. Be colorful. Help random people
