Game publisher run by game designer Steve Dee. Sydney, Australia. Social media is the problem but I need promotional streams to get games to people.
you know, if you're on a website deliberately designed to make things seem opaque and cause division, you shouldn't be pissed at people politely asking you for clarification.
There's a little ticker in my head counting down to getting off this hellsite and it went down by one today.

Social media IS the problem, but it became the problem in part because it gave us telepathy. You can log onto a site like this and someone in a human skin will utter the most insane, profane, debaded, inhuman madness and it deforms your entire sanity to see it.

The thing I love about comedy is that even when it's weird, it's based on getting some group of people to agree on an universal feeling. More than any other art form it is grounded in being relatable and connecting. Social media is the diametric opposite: it divides and isolates.

None of this is a competition but the first people in the camps and the gas chambers, before the queer folk, before the disabled, before the Jews and the Romani, were the socialists and the anarchists and the leftists. You know: antifa.

not only are you right, but the folks denying the material conditions that led to the nazi party winning are denying the causes that allowed the holocaust to happen.

that's like one step above holocaust denialism - encouraging holocaust repeatism.

Literally all of society hates this abominable scam homunculus and the weird little death cult bubble of vampiric losers who spewed it forth upon the world. Take a break from bragging about how gullible you are and give yourself a swirlie and stuff yourself in a locker and sort yourself out.

I think something that got lost in the discourse around Garland's Civil War is that film makes a pretty loud argument that the media is the fucking problem. So this idea that there's a non-hallucination reality protected by jermalism that we can swim back to...is I think wishful thinking.

there were a couple weeks where i tried Perplexity to see if AI search engines were any good.

They aren't.

If you disagree let me make something clear: I am better at searching than you.
one of the coolest things about ChatGPT is how you can actually just never use it. you can fill your whole entire life with simply not once using it. it's incredible.

Gates insistence on prioritizing intellectual property rights before distributing the COVID vaccine definitely resulted in unnecessary deaths of children.

The World Loses Under Bill Gates’ Vaccine Colonialism
As many countries wait for Covid vaccines, the world needs a patent-free “People’s Vaccine”—not more of Gates’ intellectual property stubbornness.

They *did*.

Please, FFS, people: Read primary sources from the eras your are discussing! The exact same dismissals, minimizations, and deflections were made on ALL of those issues, and in "major" or "serious" media!

This is a good example of how bsky always kind of removes the middle because we are living through a massive epistemological crisis (mostly caused by things like bluesky), but that doesn't mean Will should be screaming so much about everything all the time. People do still sense reality as well.
People have always been fundamentally irrational - socially conveyed ideas have always superseded observable reality. But modern liberal democracy was made possible by epistemological structures, in the form of media institutions and political norms, that promoted fact and truth. They have collapsed
But that's the electorate we've got, and have always had. Humans have never been rational or fact-driven.

It only becomes an issue if the fundamental violation of human rights becomes legitimized, which is why we have to fight tooth and nail to reaffirm that our work doesn't belong to just anyone with a big wallet.

It reflects the possible abolition of human rights, full stop. That's game over.

these two things are not unrelated though. They made cars bigger and bigger and bigger because they sold it as bigger = your kid won't die, until they couldn't go any bigger so they switched to more headlights = your kid won't die.
Yes, HID headlights are very bright but the bigger problem is the proliferation of gargantuan vehicles with 5’+ hood heights so that if you’re driving a normal sized car their headlights are at your eye level rather than seat level like they’re supposed to be.

I remember having a UBI. It was called “living with my parents,” and I had all my food/shelter needs covered, plus free access to a (shared) TV, music, books, a library card, cars I could borrow and more.

I still worked drudge jobs, because I wanted to buy lots of comics and take girls to movies.
Always grinds my gears when people say "No one would work drudge jobs if there was a UBI"

But even staying completely capitalist, I disagree. If I received a baseline living-wage UBI, and then I was offered REWARDS for drudge jobs, I'd take it! I want to save up for treats and travel and hobbies!

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

One of the reasons we prototype fast and often is because it means there will be obvious mistakes/things we need to fix/improve in what we make so we have a reason to go back and iterate. Let me explain:
