It's crazy how so many people have forgotten the politics of immigration reform during the Obama administration. He did ramp up deportations. It was part of an overall policy aimed at major, immigrant-friendly reforms. It *almost* worked, too.
The casting of Obama as the Perfect Centrist also neglects that he:
*deprioritized removals of longtime residents
*gave legal protections to Dreamers and even tried to extend them to millions of parents of US citizens/LPRs (court blocked)
*presided over Senate passage of legalization for millions

I’ve been giving Senate Dems latitude on this since they’re in the minority but Walz deserves 0 grace for his mishandling of this situation and if it’s due to the fear for his family’s safety he needs to resign from office. If you’re putting them before your duty to the state then you are unfit.

They were skeptical on shutting down specific operations but if it’s just general conduct they seem more inclined to rule

Which is why immigration enforcement as a separate law enforcement agency is an insane structure. These immigration crimes are misdemeanors but since you have no rights in these proceedings you can be treated like a terrorist in Gitmo.
That's why they like immigration enforcement so much, to be clear, they like and they want to expand its ability to abrogate completely our 4th amendment rights and to be clear it is a military extraordinary rendition, not an arrest.
