You definitely want to learn to stop saying, "I am SO OLD!" long before the people to whom you're saying it just look at you in response with expressions that say, "I mean...yes."

I stand with County Executive Calvin Ball as he signs emergency legislation today prohibiting privately owned buildings from being used as ICE detention centers.

Howard County chose dignity, accountability, and its people. Tune into our event now:

Lord forgive me, but it's time to go back to the old me: Trying to get dudes on the Internet to say "patriarchy" about the Epstein files:
You Know, You Can Just Say "Patriarchy"
These analyses of the Epstein case are... missing something.

If you're not familiar with software development, seeing "lines of code produced" as a metric of quality is like paying a cook by the amount of salt they use.
Meta now forcing all employees to use AI tools and tying it to employee performance, according to @theinformation.com.

HR said "this is not an activity tracker—it’s an impact-evidence starter"

That's a fun way to rebrand workplace surveillance.

one thing that would be cool, when prominent creators turn out to be terrible people, would be if we didn't have to go through this performative dance of insisting that their work was never good in the first place.

I hope everyone who is sharing this, aghast, will wear respirators (and properly). Measles is airborne and respirators block transmission of airborne pathogens between ppl—including those going into/out of detention centres. Don’t wait for the fascist government to tell you to b/c they won’t!
ICE now confirming that there is a measles outbreak at the Texas concentration camp where young Liam was held.

If they redeem themselves, they wouldn’t care if they got their status back and they might not even want it; that’s how redemption works; that’s what redemption is. What they want is exoneration for free, with a side order of vindication.
In the event that say Gaiman or Rowling or Orson Scott Card or [insert name] magically redeemed themselves, we still wouldn't owe them our time, money or attention nor would they deserve the status they once had. There have always been other people to read.

It's pretty amazing to me the amount of shit that apparently you can Just Do as an NYC mayor. It makes basically every other American politician look like an incompetent loser.

What do you mean there was just a button that reversed wage theft? Why wasn't and isn't everyone hitting it all the time??

You can test new tech ideas using the Seinfeld Test

Would the product eliminate the plot of an episode? (Google maps, cell phones, paypal, battery packs)

Good tech.

Would the product inspire new Seinfeld plots? (NFTs, AI chatbots, crypto currency, blindboxes, metaverse land sales)

Bad tech.

oh sorry I thought you were the GOVERNOR OF THE DAMN STATE.
They’re taking kids from Minnesota and sending them to detention camps. They’re shooting American citizens in the street and locking investigators out of the crime scenes. The world is watching what happens next.
Hundreds of people spelled out the distress signal "SOS" on Bde Maka Ska in Minneapolis on Friday, Jan. 30.

New research finds that COVID viruses continue to be dangerous after they’re destroyed by your immune system. Some spike proteins survive, turning into shrapnel, continuing to target our immune cells.

THISSSSS is why I don’t use it. I refuse to permanently outsource my cognitive process to a glorified sentence finisher.
Checked in on a podcast which used to be a funny, interesting highlight of my listening week until the hosts started talking about AI being “a useful tool”. A few months on, they are now seemingly incapable of processing any thought without consulting ChatGPT. Really grim stuff.

This tactic is really worth spending some time thinking about. It demonstrates a contempt for both the people they’re abducting and the communities they’re abducting them from which isn’t reformable or salvageable. It’s a contempt for the idea of law itself. They all have to go to jail.
ICE's decision to just leave cars abandoned in the roads is one of those dystopian things that makes you recoil in shock when you encounter it.
A legal asylum-seeker who works at Chipotle and plays music at a church in Maine went missing. His pastor searched and searched, eventually finding his abandoned car with the keys on the floor.

ICE grabbed him. No criminal record. No explanation.

So it's decided: Every documentary will begin with the subject getting miked in a sit-down interview, idle chit-chat with the offscreen director, and then cutting to the title card after they ask, "Have we started?"
