And let me just add that, as far as extremely-recently-made-up-and-propagated-on-the-internet traditions go, New Year’s lemon pigs sure as hell beat gender reveal parties 🤮
You know, a couple of years ago, the music teacher at our elementary school ended a concert with ~60 kids attempting “Eye of the Tiger” on the recorder

Who KNOWS what heretofore untapped guerrilla strategizing genius lurks in your community, is what I’m saying
bro whistles are the NICE option. do you really want to challenge 1,000 nerds with 3D printers to invent something louder and more annoying???

This is definitely one of the MANY reasons that I build in lots of drops in my classes. There are all kinds of things that come up in students’ lives that they might not want to or even imagine they COULD tell us, and some of them might be “less serious” but man, you couldn’t pay me to be 19 again
I don't think we talk enough about how the personal/social sides of students' college experiences affect their ability to engage academically. Especially when the stresses fall short of things that would meet the threshold for official reporting/access to formal support.

I often comment when teaching socialization that kids very easily learn where & when they can say “fuck” if you’re just matter of fact about it!

My oldest, age 4, rolling her eyes as I tried to give her detailed language rules for school: “Yes, I know. I KNOW I can only say ‘motherfucker’ at HOME.”
My 3-year-old finishing a game of Solitaire and hunting for the remaining high spades:

“Now, help me find that fucking thing. And where is the other fucking thing?”

…Listen, we’re all just doing our fucking best with this parenting thing

The administration’s greatest power is people backing down before they are forced to deploy any actual power to make them do so. It’s a force multiplier people use on themselves.
Do you know how many times this administration has threatened me in the last 365 days? Do you know how many of those threats it has carried out? They are using FEAR AND INTIMIDATION to keep us in line, not actual legal force. We shouldn't fall for it.

I've read a lot about how high heat sickens and kills incarcerated people, and less about cold temperatures; this time of year, this is a very appropriate read.

If we get Democrats into office and they engage in a few toothless targeted investigations of the worst actors while voting to fund better training for the paramilitary ethnic cleansing forces waging war against us, that will be not only demoralizing; it will be a loss as real as any electoral loss.

People are asking a lot “how is this happening?” It’s happening the way abolitionists have warned you for decades it’s happening — you can’t dehumanize whole groups of people, pay for their brutalization & not expect for more bounty hunters to come.

stop using AI to do your research. it hallucinates too often. if you want an answer to something, post something arrogant on the appropriate subreddit. something like: "this item performs 10% better than everything else. only idiots deny this." this will bait nerds into doing your research for you.

"Our new analysis shows that it is far more dangerous to be pregnant than to have an abortion, and this gap in mortality risk is even larger than previously recognized.” - lead study author Maria Steenland.
In fact, the mortality risk of pregnancy is 44 to 70 times higher than from abortion.
Risk of maternal death during pregnancy greatly underestimated, study finds
A new study comparing deaths of pregnant people and of those who have an abortion show that risk of death due to pregnancy is three times higher than previously estimated.

Baby shampoo mixed with water recommended as optimal treatment for pepper spray by an ophthalmologist, which speaking as a maker of soap & “personal care products” makes total sense. Milk products not recommended primarily due to risk of infection. Plain water is fine & much better than nothing!
The guy who makes funny doctor videos (who actually is an ophthalmologist) just made a couple on pepper spray generally and with contacts. We live in weird times.

If you aren't familiar with what DARVO is, get familiar with it. "Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender." The govt is relying on DARVO as a tactic on a national scale, and it is also increasingly a conservative tactic to attack outspoken critics of their ideas, theories, & renderings of history.
