ROMAN CITIZEN #1: Gallinus is the mightiest charioteer in the circus. He will surely win the favor of Minerva
ROMAN CITIZEN #2: @Cato is this true?
CATO: Many people believe that Carthage must be destroyed. It’s a complex issue and the reality is probably more nuanced than that.

If you work for ice please understand that your kids will laugh at a character based on you dying in an action movie before the end of the decade. They’ll be in movies for really little kids. Like Phineas and Ferb shit. There will be an action figure of you with a detachable head

THAT'S RIGHT -- now that I know you've redeemed your strawman, it's obvious:

* You're a "free man on the road," and don't NEED to register your car.

* The government IS improperly charging so-called "income taxes" under admirality law.

* ... and you don't have to pay child support, either!
i do not think it is a good idea to use chatbots which are trained to be sycophantic to give tax advice to non-expert consumers

i think this is key. taking the deal would amount to taking the blame. it would turn a clear political victory into an unambiguous defeat.
If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

Senate Democrats think this is the appropriate response because they begin every conflict with the assumption they will lose, and then ask “How can we end this as quickly as possible while creating the appearance of having tried to win so the base isn’t mad?”
I truly don’t know how you look at the past week and THEN decide THIS is an appropriate — let alone the right — response.
Dems backed Trump into a corner where he’s advocating for starving Americans and hemorrhaging support. If they vote to let him off the hook in exchange for nothing it’s a cataclysmic failure. I know people are in pain but insulating Republicans from political consequences is not the answer.

at this point we have so much evidence for the proposition that “the electorate with trump on the ballot looks radically different from the electorate when he’s not on the ballot” that weighting to a trump year in a non-trump year is polling malpractice
Good summary of why pollsters whiffed in VA and NJ. TLDR: electorate looked like 2017 when pollsters assumed it would look like 2024, plus Latino turnout exploded.
