OCLC loves to act like they're performing a great service out of a love for libraries. But OCLC is just performing extraction, and they'll happily remind anyone in court who forgets that.

Rümeysa is one of the kindest, most compassionate people I have ever met. Many of you came to know her first and foremost as an ICE abductee, seized by a state that wanted to strip her of her humanity. I would like for you to know her in her own words, which are resoundingly human.

Tufts University doctoral student Rümeysa Öztürk opens up about her 45 days in a South Louisiana processing facility—and the generous and compassionate women she met.

One day, our places of employ will actually listen to the records managers and destroy records like this in the normal course of business. On that day I shall hop on my pig and fly off into the sunset
Still begging to know why the fuck Colombia had 15+ year old records for non-admitted students. There's so much sensitive info in an application. Colombia had no legal requirement to retain that data as far as I'm aware. So wtf happened here? And how many other universities are fixing their posture?

This is so so sad.

And I don’t see many people talking about the student loan shit they jammed in that bill. They’ve ensured only the rich can go the college. They capped the amount you can borrow over 4 years AND cut Grad Plus loans (which is how I paid my rent during law school).

Also there's no need to obscure US history of barbarism. Some folks always want to reach for Holocaust comparisons like there's not a guard tower from Angola in the Blacksonian, like camps used to hold Japanese Americans were a picnic.

They gave detainees wormy food. The facilities were filthy.
People want to substitute "Auschwitz" for "Alcatraz" to emphasize how bad this is. But this crisis in Florida is far from the universe of Auschwitz, where more than a million were murdered. Instead of equating them, I'd say we should act now to stop the future from getting any closer to the past.

To note: the legislative session just wrapped up and their districts aren’t competitive.

Rep. Melissa Hortman is the most visible woman in Minnesota state politics. She’s the speaker emerita and the leader of the DFL House Caucus. She is not just a random member of the house.

Stares right into the camera, aims, fires.

This was an intentional assault on a visible member of the press.

“Permanent modern digital records” is really getting me lolol
LTO-9 tapes are 18TB, cost under $100 each, and last for 30+ years making them the most efficient cold storage solution on the market, which every competent IT professional knows, but no im sure you can just dump all of that essential data in some shitty budget cloud storage service lmao
