James is chin-stroking about the end of democracy here, and I’d point out that the key issue for almost two decades has been a political/media class increasingly making it very clear they will choose actual Norsefire fascism over any kind of backsliding on Thatcherism, if pushed archive.ph/qBzgr

And I'll remind you that it was only a few months ago that all the Sensible Centrists were openly agreeing that they prefer fascists to the left because criticism from the left stings more.
I do not want Zack Polanski to listen to Sensible Centrists. Nor will I concede some of their criticisms about him are correct when their entire economic platform is:

1) Means testing for the vulnerable.
2) More austerity as a solution to everything.
3) Even more neoliberal deregulation.

1. A landmark study was just published in The Journal of Pediatrics.

It found a 68% reduction in suicidality for trans youth getting HRT.

It also found only 7 of more than 400 stopped taking HRT... and of those that did, 4 still identified as gender-diverse.

Transgender care saves lives.
Study In The Journal Of Pediatrics Finds Trans Youth Care Lowers Suicidality, Few Detransition
The groundbreaking study found that suicidality dropped for transgender youth receiving hormone therapy by nearly 70%, with only 7 patients of 432 discontinuing treatment.

Today I learned that stalking a 17 year old girl, writing up a 400 page 'dossier' about her, falsely reporting her to the police and smashing her phone does not constitute 'harassment'.

One wonders what *would*.

The UK is following the US model. Wealth concentrated in fewer hands. 24m can't attain minimum standard of living, real average wage unchanged since 2008, public services eroded, profiteering is rife.

Despite the US’s economic success, income inequality remains breathtaking. But this is no glitch – it’s the system

It might sound counterintuitive but trying to take Farage, Trump, Le Pen down based on individual flaws without centring the damage their politics do is counterproductive

It opens the way for less extreme actors espousing the same politics while these have become normalised by mainstream actors

I think it’s pretty clear at this point that one of the main impacts of LLMs is to disrupt thinking: to make it so that far too many people never properly learn how to do it, and then to control the output so there are thoughts that people never learn how to think.
