Corn products like tortillas are poor sources of folate known to cause deficiency, & people who consume diets high in corn flour products have increased adverse effects from folate deficiency, like neural tube defects. This health disparity is easily treated.

RFK is just ignorant, eugenicist trash.
Kennedy says adding folic acid to tortillas is “waging war” against poor residents. Folic acid has long been added to cereal and bread and the CDC website currently says it’s safe for those with the mutation mentioned in the thread Kennedy is replying to.

[on ghost tour]

Tour guide: Any questions?

Me: [raises hand] How did you die?

Tour guide: I meant about Fort Sumter.

Me: [lowers hand]

Tour guide: [rolling eyes] Testicular cancer, okay? Was that worth it? Is everyone’s experience improved by this?

[very validating general murmurs of approval]

White men are 36% of the population but 80% of the outrageously whiny mediocrities who think they deserve more without any effort (the other 20% are white women)
Fact | You can't write something predicated in the utterly ludicrous assumption that white men are being excluded from publishing unless you are racist.

on some level you have to stand in awe of the gall it takes to use this tone about someone people are angry at for suppressing a story about a concentration camp

You shake yourself awake in the cold North Atlantic water. You are not online. It is July of 1858. You are a baleen whale, and you have changed your mind. The future most not come to pass. The telegraph cable must break.

Notably, the argument that FIRE, the Manhattan Institute, and Defending Education made—that the policy amounted to government-compelled speech—echoed decades-old lines of attack from opponents of the Civil Rights Act.

And of course some of lawsky like Ken White are trashing the article despite him being quoted accurately.

Confirmation that the New York Times has changed their internal style guide to cease using the term "gender affirming care" and instead use the term "gender related care."
I asked around and this does appear to be a deliberate style change. It wasn’t announced to staff, but contentious style changes often aren’t. They’re just imposed by the standards desk when they review a story. (Take that for what it is) This desk btw is run by Patrick Healy, no friend of trans ppl

200 posts one day.

Totally normal stuff 🤷‍♂️
President Donald Trump gifted the world with nearly 200 Truth Social posts (and counting) on Christmas Day, where he amplified conspiracy theories about the 2020 election and called for a member of Congress to be deported.

"they are almost certainly the result of some degree of cherry-picking" lol this guy is so bad at his job! Do the bare minimum argument to determine if the numbers are cherry picked and use that as part of your argument!
Love how Chatterton is like "yes Bruenig is right and Savage is wrong but this demonstrably false phenomenon feels true to me."

Something that's getting lost in this story is that the "instructor" in question is not a professor with a PhD; she is a Graduate Teaching Assistant, meaning the University of Oklahoma has thrown one of ITS OWN STUDENTS under the bus to appease a right wing grifter who tried to dunk on a trans woman

The University of Oklahoma has removed an instructor who was accused by a student of religious discrimination over a failing grade on a psychology paper in which she cited the Bible and argued that promoting a “belief in multiple genders” was “demonic.” https://cnn.it/4b6g3rd

This is pretty egregious when you look at the actual context of the quote. And people are praising that book?
A small (personal) example of this book’s intellectual dishonesty:

My father-in-law is reading In Covid’s Wake, and excitedly told me he found a passage where I’m quoted. The quote in question is me saying the FBI worked to censor speech on social media.

Huh? When did I say that?!

It’s not “losing money” any more than air traffic controllers or public highways or street lights or fire departments are “losing money.” It is a government service. It’s not SUPPOSED to make money. It’s supposed to reliably deliver to anywhere in the US, even the unprofitable places.
cnn.com CNN @cnn.com · 4d
The USPS faces a tight squeeze. With fewer people using the mail, it’s lost more and more money: $9 billion in the 12 months ending in September alone.

Hanging Trump around the neck of other Republicans is also just good strategy - choice is either to embrace the unpopular Trump (bad) or attempt to distance yourself from him, which helps individual Republicans but reinforces the "Trump is unpopular" story and drags him down further
there is one and only one political strategy, and that is: “hang trump like an anchor around the neck of every single elected republican and the party itself.” no ‘friends across the aisle.’ no ‘the fever will break.’ anyone not on board with that has to go. no exceptions

to cut through some of the confusion about this, one thing that i think you can take away with a great deal of confidence is that weiss doesn't know what the words "due judicial review" mean
On left:

Bari Weiss: 60 Minutes segment failed to show Government view that CECOT detainees are due judicial review

On right:

Judge Boasberg Dec 22: "The Government itself has not even contested that the detainees who now make up the CECOT class received inadequate process prior to their removal"
