There are no *hard* lines in the *sand*
That's just a fact. Sand is sand.

But it's only one part of the Enlightenment he probably does not like. There is plenty of racism in the Enlightenment. In fact, one wonders where racism would be now if not for the Enlightenment philosophers' articulation of theories of race. A good overview www.press.jhu.edu/books/title/...

My students in a class on antisemitism and racism panned the sticky note antisemitism ad. Good thoughtful discussion. I wonder if the producer was about 15 in 1980 when the sticky notes became commercially available. The ad had that vibe.

Why those of us who know @kamalaharris.com are such fierce supporters:

“Her team said we were only gonna talk for 5 to 10 minutes, & we ended up talking for hours. She just wanted to hear my story, being a bartender who doesn’t drink (and) how hard it is for restaurant workers to get healthcare."
Kamala Harris dines at Macon restaurant, gives ‘hope’ to sober bartender
Former Vice President Kamala Harris shouted out two Macon restaurant workers on her local book tour stop Wednesday evening.

NEW: We’re publishing a full list of the 373 federal judges who have ruled against ICE’s mass detention policy and the 28 who have endorsed it — as well as links to key rulings by each.

Trump appointees have split 44 against/ 20 for the policy.

Ha! 😉
we need to talk about that Ring Super Bowl ad
Goldman to Lyons: "You said in your opening statement that references to ICE as 'the Gestapo' or 'secret police' encourages threats against ICE agents. The problem is you have it backwards. People are simply making valid observations about your tactics, which are un-American and outright fascist."
AOC on DHS Warehouses: I think every American should be alarmed. They are building—and have built—a black box system that disappears people, both immigrants and U.S. citizens alike.

"The Epstein class" is a global rot

In Europe, ties to Jeffrey Epstein are ending careers, sparking spy probes, and possibly toppling governments

In America, not so much. How the lack of elite accountability became the tipping point for democracy. My new column www.inquirer.com/opinion/jeff...
Europe is holding its Epstein creeps accountable. Why can’t we? | Will Bunch
Europeans are pushing to hold Jeffrey Epstein's creepy pals, including billionaires like Elon Musk, accountable. The U.S.? Not so much.

This is a great piece by my colleague spencer on the bad bunny helftimeshow but of course there’s never been a more divisive idea in American history than all of us being American, we fought a civil war over it and Trump is nothing if not manifest opposition to it www.theatlantic.com/culture/2026...
‘Together, We Are America’
Bad Bunny’s critics said his Super Bowl halftime show would be divisive. They were totally wrong.
www.theatlantic.com
Not at all surprised to learn that Bad Bunny has a historical adviser. His halftime show was a reminder that our history and culture are deeply intertwined with the rest of the western hemisphere. We should think of his performance as part of #America250. #SuperBowl

Pop star Bad Bunny needed a Puerto Rican history scholar. UW–Madison had just the one.
Bad Bunny collaborated with UW–Madison history professor Jorell Meléndez-Badillo on Puerto Rican narratives that accompany the new album “DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS.”

That halftime show is what people mean when they say "joy is an act of resistance."

Omg this transformation 🥹

Might seem obvious that ICE = "Immigration and Customs Enforcement" has no place at polling stations. Don't they know only citizens can vote so there is no "immigration and customs" enforcement needed. 😡

It's disgraceful we have homeless veterans.
Veterans who were homeless or had a recent diagnosis of traumatic brain injury had sharply higher rates of suicide in 2023 than the rest of the veteran population, according to an annual report published Thursday by the Department of Veterans Affairs. www.stripes.com/veterans/202...
Homelessness and diagnosed head injuries elevated veteran suicide rates, new report shows
The suicide rate for veterans with a recent diagnosis of traumatic brain injury was 94% higher; the rate among homeless veterans was 146% higher.
