I am often to be found caring for the unknown dead, who emerge, shattered, from their ancient and forgotten graves. Collecting them, burying them, praying them back to their rest. It makes me think, sometimes, of the transphobic refrain that in a thousand years our bones will somehow betray us.

I’m past defending JC, but when Zack Polanski connected his Jewish heritage and family history to Labour’s immigration policy on Newsnight, and the woman next to him scoffed and shook her head, I did find myself thinking, “How interesting that we’re back to that being acceptable again. And so soon.”
I fully agree Old Jezza’s failure to clock the very dodgy mural reflected badly on him. I do however contrast the reaction to this against e.g. Sir Keir cribbing from Enoch Powell, the billowing sixty foot union flag crackdowns and Suella Braverman summoning fash football thugs to attack protestors.

When I evacuated from the hurricane in 2005, the Red Cross offered us cash to help with expenses.

The Salvation Army offered us "a hot meal" which was just a smoked sausage soaked in cheap barbecue sauce with a stale slice of white bread we had to say how thankful we were while getting preached at.
I know it's a tad early but I know those bitches with the buckets will be out soon. Don't gove them a penny. The volunteers may not know but the salvation army is no ally and actively combative and harmful to many queer minorities especially during the holiday season

Disgraceful from Waterstones; this will be their sixth mediocre bookshop in the city and there's absolutely no good reason to shop in any of them over the swathe of great independent bookshops in the city - of which Argonaut is the best.
Waterstones to open about 100m from Argonaut, a particularly nice indie bookshop. Quote from Waterstones management makes it sound like they got Argonaut mixed up with the gaming café next door.

Look, for fuck’s sake, humans have been migrating continuously for our entire existence.

Every single human in the world is the product of migration.

It’s what humans do. There is nothing *more* human.

That’s never going to change.

Just grow up, get the fuck over it and plan accordingly.

I don't think this is really about countering Reform, at this point. It's what the people running Labour want to do, what they believe. Maybe the current Reform-focused political landscape makes them feel they have permission to act on it, but that's it.

If this disgusting racist policy had been in place in the 1940s, I literally wouldn't exist. The British government would have just carted my grandmother back to Germany once the war was over. I'm sure that would have been very "safe" immediately post-Holocaust.
Refugee status set to become temporary in radical asylum reforms
Copying the Danish model, the UK is expected to make refugee status temporary and subject to regular review, while tighter rules on family reunions may also be on the table.

One of the great heartbreaks of being in the disability community is how often we lose people and how many of our most powerful voices have gone silent. We must live our lives loudly and joyously in their honor and remember that our very existence is resistance.
Oh no I just heard we lost Alice. This is terribly sad. She was an incredible, talented, powerful voice of the disability community. She stood strong for herself and for all of us. She will be missed immensely.
‘Death remains my intimate shadow partner. It has been with me since birth, always hovering close by. I understand one day we will finally waltz together into the ether. I hope when that time comes, I die with the satisfaction of a life well-lived, unapologetic, joyful, & full of love.’

Alice Wong was a fierce advocate for disability rights and a courageous and compassionate human being. The impact of her work and the memory of her live on. May her spirit rest in peace.

She was known online as @sfdirewolf.bsky.social.
Our beloved Alice Wong has joined the ancestors. It was one of the great honors of my life to call Alice my friend, co-author & co-conspirator. She was a true genius, a force of nature the likes of which the world has never seen before. I love you, Alice, and am equal parts grateful and devastated

I once tweeted that the weather was grim in London and got replies saying I should “go home” then. This is who Shabana is trying to appease
Every Shabana tweet is engulfed with replies telling her she’s going next etc etc
The far right aren’t bothered about the finer points of asylum rules they simply want NO people of colour to be in their field of vision at any time, and Shabana that means you. Trying to capitulate like this achieves NOTHING other than contributing more to the climate of hate.

The "answer" to the pressure on the SEND system does involve better funding, better training and better systems. It does not, and must not, involve making it harder for children to access support.

No-one should be allowed to make political decisions unless they’ve worked in front line customer service or social care for at least two years as their sole source of income
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

I remember chatting to my dad about Corbyn, and he said that I shouldn't believe everything I hear from progressives, that politicians don't deliver what they promise. And I said that if they all don't deliver what they promise why shouldn't I vote for the guy who's at least lying in my direction
The important thing to remember about smug patronising headlines like this is that they aren't aimed at the "kids" they're theoretically addressing. They're aimed at their parents. www.thetimes.com/comment/colu...
Sorry kids, Greens’ fantasy politics don’t add up
Now Zack Polanski’s party is polling level with Labour it’s time to subject his platform to the scrutiny given to the grown-ups
