I am definitely a non-parent, but I have *always* found the 'I can't take it away from them!' argument to be ... really lame? just fucking take it! you don't even have to give them a reason! you're in charge! take their phone away, full stop! if you can't take your kids' meltdowns, that's on YOU.
you're their parent! you pay for the internet, the robucks, and the device!

skeet of the YEAR right here
What is ACTUALLY damaging to the party, is the people being led to the Pavlovian “dems suck” bell and smacking it like a heroin addicted rat.

The baffling part is how many people were giving him the benefit of the doubt in January and now don't approve. They got new information and changed their mind. But he was already president before! How did you not already know he sucks??

to be fair, Hunter S. Thompson was also a sexual degenerate, an immoral & non-neutral observer, and supremely convinced of his own superiority as a writer. (and before anyone says it, he's easily one of the most overrated American writers ever. his weirdness cannot overcome his horrible prose!)

to everyone in the comments who's spending even the tiniest bit of energy being mad at the fact some Democrats voted for this, CONGRATS ON BEING A SUCKER! you are reacting exactly like Republicans knew you would, good job! *you* are exactly the reason they did this!
BREAKING: The House of Representatives voted 285–98 in favor of a resolution condemning socialism.

Eighty-six Democrats joined Republicans in supporting the measure, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries.

1. least surprising thing I have read about this "peace agreement." I kinda figured the White House wouldn't be pushing this without some degree of Kremlin involvement.
2. between this & the 20-point Gaza peace plan that was actually a hand-me-down from Tony Blinken, these guys can't peace nothin'.
Even the text of the alleged "peace agreement" between Russia and Ukraine being touted by the Trump administration betrays its Kremlin origins. They were in such a such a rush they didn't even have it properly translated.

damn, I dunno what to think off the top of my head here, but when a whooooole bunch of non-scientists and non-physicians are saying this is a great thing while several legit researchers On Here are saying this is bad, I feel like I know which way I should be leaning!
EXCLUSIVE: CDC to end all monkey studies. Decision handed down by recent college grad and former DOGE employee who is now deputy chief of staff at the agency. Animals were being used in studies of HIV prevention. Some may be euthanized. My latest for @science.org

Studies related to HIV and other infectious diseases will be phased out, sources say; fate of the agency's animals remains unclear

look man, I don't really have time to pull down my LGBT history books and debunk this bullshit point-by-point (because unlike a lot of these anarchist weirdos On Here who like to lie about our history, I actually have a job), but let me just say that this thread is 100% untrue, revisionist bullshit.

the funniest thing about the word “tankie” is that if anyone objects to you using it, you can safely block them because that’s by far the easiest way to identify a tankie
fuck all these people being awful to starfish

(and also, this is an opportunity to block a whole bunch of this website’s most brain-dead tankies)
Fine. You all win. I’m logging off for the day because I‘m a big smelly man who’s also a Nazi and a bigot because I liked it better when Groypers didn’t have 1,770 nuclear weapons on hair-trigger alert. Feel free to brag in your discords about how my jimmies have been rustled and I was owned.

Trump is an egomaniacal nihilist who ultimately believes in nothing OTHER than himself, and that makes him the most dangerous person on Earth. he is 100% capable of dropping a nuke on someone who pisses him off enough, with zero regard to what it will do to the world.
Lot of replies arguing that Putin or Netanyahu is worse. I don’t think so. Both of those men are monsters, but at least they both believe, in their own ways, in a national project for their countries that enriched (some) lives.

Trump doesn’t believe in anything but himself, truly, pathologically.

Hmm, between this and the fact that at least a half dozen staff members are leaving Happy Valley *mid season* to follow him to VTech, I am beginning to suspect that Penn State might have jumped the gun on firing this man!
James Franklin is out for revenge, offering yet another Penn State commit
Now at Virginia Tech, James Franklin is pushing hard to bring the recruiting class he built in Happy Valley, down to Blacksburg.

Woke Raytheon is much better than unwoke Raytheon because one shows a company that feels an obligation towards society (even if cynical) in a way the other does not. Signaled virtue is still better than vice of any type.

1. EXTREMELY correct hot take here.
2. I've discovered through the years on my own mental health journey that a YOOOOOJ part of this problem comes directly from the fact that too many patients are relying on poorly-trained *primary care docs* for psych meds instead of going to psychiatrists.
I’m broadly sympathetic fwiw to the notion that some psychiatric drugs are a minefield because the effects are extremely obscure even and especially to the patient. doesn’t mean we shouldn’t use them, just means handle with care. but stimulant meds for ADHD have nearly the least of that problem

I used to occasionally joke that Francis & whoever followed him were going to set off a wave of US converts to the Orthodox churches because the trad-dudes need to keep doubling down on being as trad as possible for online purposes, and I think it's grimly hilarious that I was actually right.

I am not one to be particularly judgy about people's consumerist habits because I'm a high earning single man who spends a lot of money on dumb shit, but fast fashion is one of the world's most damaging, most unsustainable trends, and everyone in the US, *especially* Zoomers, need to quit it asap.
Basically everyone who sews was screaming from the rooftops that there was no way Shein wasn't produced under these conditions, but nobody wanted to listen because they felt like they deserved new clothes every week.
The people who make Shein's clothes labor for ten to twelve hours per day (in violation of China's labor laws), some up to seven days a week, and earn as little as 15 to 30 cents per t-shirt.

An ICE employee was among 16 men arrested after trying to solicit a minor for sex in Bloomington, Minnesota, police say

"When he was arrested, he said, 'I'm ICE, boys,'" Bloomington Police Chief Booker Hodges said during a press conference. "Well, unfortunately for him, we locked him up."

not sure I've ever wanted to not-do something more than I want to NOT get in the car and drive to Houston this morning, but I have got to drag my ass away from my otherwise very comfy desk to go to my least favorite place in the world. siiiiiiigh. going straight to Katz's for a Reuben as a treat!

it's also, like, the WHOLE ENTIRE POINT of democracy: the pro-democratic forces have to keep winning over the anti-democratic forces, every. single. time. "winning every election," is literally the one & only answer and has been for as long as democracy has existed.
I fucking hate the way social media has embraced the “win every election forever can’t be the answer” straw man. Yes, we need structural change. Yes, it’s hard. Yes, it will continue to be hard and require work. Every time I see this it feels like people lusting for an easy forever answer.

"you can't win every election forever" is just a reformulation of "eventually fascists will win" and, no, not if we make sure we do the hard work of having a civically minded population that understands that when fascists come into power they ruin everything.

Win every election forever IS the answer. That’s what democracy means. There is no grand finale and swelling music and they all lived happily ever after. You dig this thing out at the coal face, every day. The alternative is not Utopia, the alternative is dictatorship. Or chaos.

IF they follow through on this—and that's a pretty big 'if' because I would imagine that even within Trump-world there will be a lot of pushback for something this extreme—it's going to be the biggest, dumbest self-inflicted wound they would ever be able to inflict. truly galling details here.
Knee-buckling report from Justice Dept sources. "[T]wo pastors close to Trump have given their approval.... One of the attorneys said part of the operational plan involves undercover ICE and FBI agents attending and documenting church security plans."

One of my spiciest takes is that while everyone should be able to live in *the city* they want to reside in, that DOES NOT mean you will automatically have the ability to live in *the neighborhood* you want because real affordability is too localized!
What people usually mean is “you can’t get a unit that’s big enough for me in a good neighborhood,” which gets us back to the consumer preference thing
