Pritzker told us to take out our phones and record ICE. But what do we do when it’s his own state police force brutalizing protesters, pinning them in so that federal agents can beat them? Illinois state police were standing shoulder to shoulder with ICE at Broadview today.

At Broadview today, police physically assaulted & kidnapped protesters. When they told us to move, we did, & they pushed us roughly anyway. This is my friend who they kidnapped— they STILL have her, over 12 hours later:

What we’re seeing is not the pendulum swinging back toward the right after the left went too far. We’re seeing a moral panic, a society-wide assault on a phantom leftist who wants to ban Dr. Seuss and arrest you for using the wrong pronouns and put kitty litter boxes in classrooms.

Just found out, both the House and Senate will be on break on Friday and Monday for Presidents’ Day.

Called my reps and told them we’re in a constitutional crisis and that’s like taking a couple days off in the midst of Pearl Harbor.

Hey Congress, no breaks until DOGE is out.

In my time organizing at UMich and working at my current univ (who just cut DEI), I've learned higher ed leadership cannot be trusted to "do the right thing." They're too risk adverse and beholden to their Boards. Faculty, students, staff, & communities have to push them to do the right thing.
It is simply not enough for universities to say, “Our grants & research offices are looking into how research will be affected by the latest directive.”

University leaders must actively and very publicly make the case for the kind of work many of us do. The silence on this front is deafening.

Any university that voluntarily shutters a DEI program, office or personnel “Because of Trumps Executive Order” is making a PR decision. Not a legal one.

Trumps EO does not change anti discrimination law. If anything, the EO is unlawful.

Universities should treat it that way.

If you’re a blue state legislator wondering how you can protect trans people right now, allowing birth certificates to be changed without listing them as “amended” so that we can still get passports is high on the list.

I don't know if or when this will happen.

What I know:

1) it is as reliable and plausible as anything else right now

2) Senate Democrats made a "deal" to move Trump confirmations forward so they could scramble out of DC

3) there is zero upside for the public
Just confirmed this with my source: They were told the entirety of cdc.gov is going down imminently and to backup what they need.

I saw a post saying that ICE is pausing its tip line, so I decided to call myself to verify.

The recorded voicemail said they are not currently accepting immigration status tips.

Good job, friends.

RIP Hind Rajab.

Today is one year on since this little six year old was killed (my daughter's age) - and then so were the two brave medics who came to rescue her, as agreed by the IDF, as she cowered in her family car with her family dead around her.

I will never forget this story.

The effect of rescinding the order is to moot the case, but be vigilant. They'll try doing this by another route.
🚨 BREAKING: OMB has just issued a memo *rescinding* the previous memo freezing all federal financial assistance programs.

We're not safe with you unless you're willing to take the bare minimum of concrete action to protect us and contact your legislators at the state and federal level to demand that they protect trans people.
If you’re a straight, cis person who has ever posted some version of a rainbow with “you’re safe with me” or similar, it’s time to back up the words with action— contact your reps and ask them what they’re going to do to protect trans people from this administration, particularly trans kids.

NEW FROM ME:

The government will do things that hurt people.

But knowing exactly what it is doing — & therefore who’s most at risk — is at the foundation of fighting against it. Anything else is doing Trump’s job for him.
