The problem is that a lot of people have made being American such a significant part of their identity that admitting America's faults would require self reflection and that shit ain't happening
I think what makes it all so difficult is how many millions of people still cling onto lies and false comforts about a country founded on the genocide of both indigenous and Black people. "This isn't who we are. We are better than this. The democrats will save us from the tyranny of republicans."
