High-level corporate behavior makes more sense when you understand that a high-level exec often does not care about ensuring future success. They care about what makes their numbers good this quarter.

Few execs plant seeds that will take 5 years to grow. They'll be gone by then.

Ummmmmmm Boeing might actually need to be nationalized cause this is some dark dark shit
Boeing did not retain security camera footage showing work on Max jet door that blew out, NTSB says
Boeing also will not identify employees who worked on the fuselage of Alaska Airlines Flight 1282, which made an emergency landing after the incident.

two regulations that would be an utter no brainer in a sane country:

1) progressive vehicle weight tax that increases steeply past 5k pounds
2) grille height limit of 1.25m
"the researchers directed a passengerless 2022 Rivian R1T truck weighing around 7,000 pounds toward an MGS guardrail at 62 mph and a 25-degree angle, reflecting common highway crash conditions. The Rivian demolished the guardrail" slate.com/business/202...

BECAUSE (say it with me, kids):

Abortion bans are not only a violation of the 14th Amendment, but the 1st Amendment as well. You cannot enshrine one specific religious perspective into law and impose it upon an entire diverse nation of people.

Sure, you've heard of replacing bad car engines with good ones, but what if instead we just set stuff on fire so the dullest people in the world can type "Tom Cruise Iron Man Art Deco Punches Stalin" and then feed a rainforest into a furnace as it cranks the hurdy gurdy and spits out trash.

anyway let's "start" reducing emissions by dissolving this absolutely evil company, seizing all its assets to start mitigating the damage they have done worldwide, and using the personal wealth of its CEO to compensate people and communities he's harmed
Please sit down before you read this post.

So.

The CEO of Exxon-Mobil just said this in an interview: "We’ve waited too long to open the aperture on the solution sets in terms of what we need, as a society, to start reducing emissions."

There's more... 🧵

Exxon Mobil CEO on the 'dirty secret' of Net Zero: 'People who are generating the emissions need to be aware ... and pay the price'
"The dirty secret nobody talks about is how much all this is going to cost and who's willing to pay for it," Darren Woods said on Fortune’s Leadership Next podcast.

I was thinking about this the other day and there were *so many* things I had sorta memory holed. remember the airport pileup? "I like the numbers being where they are"? the big campaign rally in March? UV and bleach? him taking hydroxychloroquine? “If we didn’t do testing, we’d have no cases”?
a point i made a few weeks ago and a point i will make again is that the mulligan trump gets for covid makes absolutely no sense. an acute crisis like a pandemic is, as lord businessman notes, the whole reason we have a singular executive! the fact that he fucked up should be dispositive!
Trump's COVID response is sufficient to never allow him to be President again, which gets clouded over by 1/6 and with some good reason I think, but remains a deception and fraud on the American people that willfully got many, many people killed to goose his re-elect odds

In Judaism we talk about “disagreements for the sake of heaven.”

In the Talmud, when matters of Jewish law can’t be resolved on the page, there’s a cute acronym that’s basically, “someday Elijah the prophet will show up and tell us who won but until then 🤷”

Not all disagreements are bad or wrong.
