Having worked with children a few times over the years, there's a specific body language of people who have a true, innate love for children that just pours off of them.

Oh god reading this immediately reminded me of the horrifying Daniel Shaver shooting (which I regrettably watched because I felt I needed to expose myself to this stuff) which people still justified because a terrified man afraid of being shot was terrified.
It’s very convenient: No matter what she did, you can claim she was disobeying police orders. Which in the minds of a depressing number of people with a taste for boot leather, merits summary execution.
