If you sue a corporation you need to present their registration to the court. The data can be downloaded from the MOJ data base for 331yen, but the court won’t take it. You have to get the same data on a piece of paper with a hanko stamp from MOJ.

Court records of trials in Japan are public. But you have to know the docket number, go to the courthouse (no on-line access), and can’t make copies. So you can’t, for example, search for all cases where a given person or company was a plaintiff or defendant.
