Fun fact: this scene came from a moment when I was staying with a close friend of mine and she had to walk me through an anxiety attack and tell me that I was not, in fact, dying on her couch.

It was super fun and too short! Originally Virgil's dad was supposed to be upset w/him for getting a C in Biology. But Denys came back and said oh no no. Virgil's dad would be upset w/him for getting anything lower than an A- in biology. So we changed it haha.
@gwillow.me G-Dubz, congrats to you, @denyscowan.bsky.social and everyone else involved on the MM and Static crossover! Any fun tidbits on working on this?

Thanks!

this is part of a discussion about using AI art in your presentation slides, but also feels like it captures where this all goes wrong.

people who don't see the visuals as communication can't respect the skill & thought of the artists whose work got fed into these models to begin with.
Yes! Visuals are part of the communication. Treating them as ignorable decoration completely misses the point and it’s not how they’re received by an audience

reminder if you are still in clean-up mode today, don’t overwork your garbage disposals.

today the busiest day of the year for plumbers. fats, starches, and bones do not belong in a disposal or drain.

reduce food waste, compost where you can, and don’t treat your drains like a trash can.

We ended up betraying many (most?) of the locals who helped us and leaving them in Afghanistan to dodge the Taliban. A friend of mine who worked for the US finally got visas for himself and his family...from Germany.
Afghans saved many American lives during the war. Way more troops are alive because of them than have been harmed by asylum-seekers. The potential reward of coming to the US was key to securing cooperation. Kicking everyone out will ensure no one helps again.

None of us eat canned cranberry sauce but we figured it needed to be on the table for symbolic reasons (like the bone on a seder plate). So every year since 1995 we are presented with the SAME unopened ceremonial can at the table. It still hasn’t exploded.

Every year I give family members books for Christmas. My sister and her two sons have a pact that these books do NOT go to college, they get read at home and live in mom's library. This means that today, I got a GLOWING report on nephew's Xmas book from last year from my sister.

Audience culture is the worst it's ever been, I swear to god. People forgot how to act. I'm at the theater, trying to enjoy my show, which I've paid GOOD MONEY for, and these two old assholes are in the balcony heckling the life out of the poor bear onstage. Not letting him finish a single joke.

Rice Truck mentioned, gotta re-up the Saga just in case anyone hasn't read it--or if you're like me and just wanted to read it again

a cancer nurse in a state I've never been to told messaged me and said that reading out Rice Truck aloud as it happened was the only day in her entire 14 year career on chemo ward that nobody cried and it's probably the best compliment I will ever get in my life
What is the best compliment you ever received? Putting aside whether or not you believed it.

If you read this thread, watched the series, and find yourself in need of a good/hot take on the concept while season two rolls out, may I suggest @rdotspoon.bsky.social's very delightful A Man for Mrs. Claus?

on recommendation from my sister, I am embarking upon the Hallmark Channel series FINDING MR. CHRISTMAS, a reality show for wholesome men to compete for the right to star in a Hallmark Christmas movie

I ordered one of these last week (because I thought I did it months ago and had not). Sent it directly to the recipient's house.

He got it today!

That means that if you order today, you can probably use it as this year's advent calendar! Learn about eels! Do it!
This year we have sold 31% of the advent calendars that we sold last year 😓

The art is so pretty and colorful 🥺
The facts are so good 🥺
Eels are so cool 🥺

And that’s being generous. Middle class consumers are not restricted to online-only food access almost anywhere unless they live remotely by choice. Which is the exact opposite of food deserts and isolated geographies of poverty. Including rich consumers is just unserious.

Even if I allow that some middle class consumers have better options online than in person, Rich consumers are not now and probably never will be entirely captured by an online only service. What are you talking about?
I dunno, 'online capture' seems pretty fine for their middle class and rich customers. Are they being cruelly exploited by Walmart, too?
That’s fine. You still cannot explain why online capture is acceptable for poor consumers
