I’ve been working on the Lawyers’ Committee Election Protection project for more than 20 years. This kind of threat happens in almost every cycle and almost never materializes. The threat - creating fear - IS the voter suppression tool. It costs nothing so any suppression it produces is a plus.

If you talk with the most down-to-earth, level-headed multi-millionaires, you see it taking form: So much invisible friction has been removed from their lives in ways great & small that they don't even see, so with best intentions they feel like they can still relate to common folks, but they can't.
If you have a billion dollars or more, you are evil. You don't start out as evil, so it's not like only evil people ever get a billion dollars; it's just that being a billionaire forced you to make a choice, be evil or change how you do things and stop being a billionaire. Billionaires choose evil.
You can look at the Epstein files and conclude that only bad people have billions of dollars, but I think it’s also possible that having billions of dollars cauterizes your humanity

I am constantly reminded that it is also really brave to receive help in these difficult moments. To be a vulnerable person, living in a society that very clearly wants to harm you, and to trust your family’s survival to strangers or people you hardly know is also really difficult.
