I also got taught in catering class never to let go of sharp objects in the washing up. So I always leave knives safely against the splashback until ready to be washed. And then do each in turn rather than them just being put in washing up bowl risking cuts.

Professional societies keep beclowning themselves buying into a lie about what an LLM "summary" is. They are inherently counterfeit: not an epistemic product of the ideas in the source, but summary-shaped text linguistically based on *other* works (in the training corpus) that use related language.
This is one of the reasons I remain horrified by seeing @historians.org suggest "ways to use gAI" that included this:

I’m very proud of Dan! He didn’t want to be a publisher. I cajoled him and dangled my various successes, then nearly rug pulled him when he was ready to go forward days after I had a diagnosis of aortic valve failure (correctable!). He trusted me and I wanted to make his book happen.

It's going to be a shotgun hit, with it being very efficatious for certain tasks, a value-add in others and absolutely useless and dangerous for must-be-correct type endeavors.

Of course people will use it for the wrong things and a lot of damage will be done.

The $$$ will push into wrong areas.

I’m just going to tell the story. Back in 2000 I was volunteering for the Gore campaign when he came along with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Alfre Woodard and Dule Hill to a GOTV event here in MN. He ended up sitting down across from me stuffing his envelopes.

The cultural impact of Rob Reiner cannot be understated. Legend isn't big enough a word. It goes to 11. You can't handle the truth. As you wish. I'll have what she's having. I'm your number one fan. You guys wanna see a dead body? The very idea of a bucket list. The West Wing.

All from his movies.

This is the real reason that tech orgs love "build to learn." The more time they spend on building, the more the entire project gets locked in to the course of action.

The range of "acceptable" issues that the validation can find rapidly diminishes, making the idea seem more and more perfect.

I used to teach 7th grade and now my response (which is a reflex, I don't even have to think about it) is Teacher Voice saying "That's inappropriate and you need to stop."

It's surprisingly effective.

and i’ll use @donmoyn.bsky.social’s post here to make the point that the other piece of the unitarian view seems to be that the purpose of the executive branch is to be an extension of the president’s will, rather than a tool to execute the commands of the legislature.
At will? Whose will?
Removing independent agency heads is part of a broader assault on a nonpartisan government
