Every night I light a candle and say a short prayer that God finally, after so long, gives us what was promised in the beginning

pee tape
man, what the fuck is in these files that would a) be worse than anything we have ever learned about him, b) make him willing to risk a maga civil war over it, and c) have him desperately calling half of the republicans in the house and begging them to vote against their release
Trump on Epstein Files: I don’t want to talk about it because fake news like you—you’re a terrible reporter—fake news like you just keeps bringing up to deflect from the tremendous success of The Trump Admin

white republicans are able to rule alabama because virtually every white person in alabama is more racist than anyone you have ever met
Alabama’s population is 28% Black and increasingly Hispanic. White Republicans are only able to rule by cheating. And when Dems invest no money in red states that becomes a self fulfilling prophecy

imagine being hit on by gross old Larry Summers when you just wanted professional advice and then finding out he was getting advice on how to hit on you from Jeffrey fucking Epstein

one of the grossest things I’ve ever read
The emails have Summers reporting to Epstein about his attempts to date a Harvard economics student & to hit on her during a seminar she was giving.

some guy in the UK thought that Tibet was getting closer to Russia, so they sent like a thousand guys into the Himalayas to get Tibet to back off of its relations to Russia, to which Tibet's response was essentially, "uh, can you point to Russia on a map for us? sure. we, uh, won't do that."

Doesn't this track? If market forces will take care of non-fossil fuel installation, that's great, and the issue benefits from political depolarization.

You're not going to get good climate policy out of the US for three years, the most you could hope for would be US getting out of way.
I'm kind of baffled how the "moderates" have apparently all decided to turn against climate policy at once, just as China reaches green electrostate liftoff mode. I thought these people were all about National Greatness and making Hard Choices

This is another point, the Weimar fetishists among the doomer set are ignoring the ways in which Trumpism is a very distinctly American phenomenon with parallels *in our own history*.
It's insane because like...there are much better comparisons in our own country's history! The long Redemption of the late 1800s/early 1900s, the Red Scares,
The reason I get frustrated with people who overindex on the example of Nazi Germany and treat it like a note-for-note blueprint for where we are now is that they terrify our people into making terrible decisions, or into quiescence, or, worse, suicidal hopelessness.

America's network of democratic alliances was a jewel. Never before had a great power relied on cultivating voluntary relationships, leading to the richest, most powerful country in history, and benefitting the world relative to the alternative.

Then America decided to throw it away. And for what?

Yesterday I learned that the US Navy has a tiara option for female sailors to wear in dress uniform and I for one think they are missing a huge opportunity for recruitment by not making this more well-known. I did not know the Navy had tiaras when I was picking my service branch. I feel cheated.

UVA Pres. Ryan's letter isn't just about the DOJ though. It credibly details dubious conduct from many people who were supposed to put UVA's interests first and didn't (likely because they agreed with DOJ's far-right pressure campaign): the Board, the AG, outside counsel, etc.
Mafia governance in action

"the only offer on the table was that I needed to resign by 5pm that day or the DOJ would basically rain hell on UVA... If I did not resign that day, I was told that the DOJ would extract/block hundreds of millions of dollars from UVA before they would even negotiate."

This is so insane.
“The prohibited activities would include joint research, co-authorship on papers, and advising a foreign graduate student or postdoctoral fellow. The language is retroactive, meaning any interactions during the previous 5 years could make a scientist ineligible for future federal funding.”

It's interesting that centrist pundits never land on centrist positions like "tough on [white collar] crime".

I think the reason for that is centrist pundit types are disproportionately those who benefit from elite networks. They are distinct from centrist voters this way.
we have an addiction in America when we have a crime syndicate in control of the federal government and people still think they are the ones who are tough on crime.

It's not hard to figure out what the @nytimes.com ownership and editors care about and believe, we're just all supposed to pretend otherwise because they've convinced you that being willfully stupid is an important journalistic norm.
and that can be true! but then you open the actual newspaper and it's soft-focus profiles of Chris Rufo, a frenzied transphobic crusade, an all-out effort to get the first Black woman president of Harvard canned over bullshit, Get Zohran, etc etc

However, experts warn against relying on folk remedies over medical care.

It's probably not something anybody would have standing to challenge, but a straightforward case could be made this violates the 27th Amendment. By limiting it to only senators, the value of this cause of action is thus a perk, a kind of 'compensation,' granted simply because they're senators.
This allows Trump (via DOJ) to use taxpayer money to bribe eight GOP Senators. It's that simple, there's no other way to describe it.

And where's the compensation for people injured by the Trump admin's unlawful conduct through DHS & DOGE?

Take a bow, @schumer.senate.gov, you did this.

Let's look at this for the opportunity it is - for everyone to learn the original (and preferred) meaning of the term "emotional labor"
"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.

They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.

If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."

🙄 Won't stop the boycott, y'all.
