I remain of the view that the UK is ungovernable.

The alternatives to Starmer are a hard right drunk, who has never delivered on anything, yet manages to pick up the 30% of racist Britons with his “immigrants to blame” card, and a left wing idealist who tells his 20% what they want to hear. /1

I can’t get over all the journalists and centrist pundits who sneered that “Twitter isn’t real life” when it was full of weird leftists but now insist it’s a vital window into the public mood when the entire site is Nazis, illegal porn, bots, and Belarusians calling themselves “Iowa MAGA Farm Guy”
thinking about how long leftists were blamed for making twitter inhospitable for MPs who are refusing point blank to leave now it's full of nazis and child porn

you can't understand what needs to be fixed if you don't get that we've been barking up the wrong trees and poisoning our minds for decades. these places are bad for us. they are bad for the world. you should view what we do here as slightly less responsible than shooting up heroin.

Maybe in 2026 we can start to agree that "a complex algorithm selects content" is an editorial stance and platforms should be responsible to a certain degree.

Men doing this whole “I will vanquish continents for my children” LARP is so goofy in the context of household surveys. It’s nice you’ll kill millions for your daughter, maybe we can start at doing a load of laundry for your wife who does the vast majority of household labor?

I actually do not feel great about committing to doing the same thing over and over as some kind of principled stance. I'm here to reduce harm. Like actually. Not to craft a great magical story that sounds really good but doesn't actually happen.

I've written and produced a radio play (and with only minimal help from Charles Dickens)! "A Noisebox Christmas Carol" gets its premiere on Christmas Eve at 8:30pm and I'm very proud of it. The @noiseboxradio.com team have really stepped up and its all very silly indeed. A proper Christmas special.

Okay, that's enough of that.
A.I. sucks. Think for yourself. Create for yourself. Struggle. Take your time. Do not cede your humanity to an algorithm because it's hard. Make something yourself. It won't be perfect. But it'll be yours.
And call your mom.

What genAI promises is a flat, boring world in which you get what you want every time and never have to engage with anything that challenges you. It’s pure anti-culture. It deifies the consumer - and “consumer” is pointedly chosen - at the expense of art and artist.

I cannot stress how much contempt I have for every single person who is doing the "well AI is here to stay, and it actually has some uses" dance. Go buy memecoins if you want to be duped by obvious scams, it would be less embarrassing for you

Don’t say this lightly but Birmingham Mail’s gaming of its position on Apple News/Google to farm clicks makes it one of the most effective spreaders of false information in the country.

Could list a dozen way more egregious examples of fake ragebait it’s pumped out recently.
An online Birmingham Mail headline "Drivers with cruise control urged to press button or face £73 charge in June" breached the Editors' Code as there was no such charge - in fact drivers could "save" £73 on fuel www.ipso.co.uk/rulings/0226...

Whatever else this government do (and there's plenty of issues with this budget) ministers will always be able to point to this as an incredible important contribution to the country's future. Almost half a million kids taken out of poverty.
Scrapping the two-child limit in full is a monumental decision. Well done to all involved in the Child Poverty Strategy, and everyone who has made the case against the policy.

OBR says scrapping costs £3 billion in 2029-30 and will lift 450,000 out of poverty

The agenda moves quickly, Paul, because you are all on X and allow a foreign owned media organisation with an agenda against this country to set that agenda. That's on you and your bosses.

Sorry to keep banging on about it but it's literally *they are on Twitter and think it's the majority view*
This is pretty striking and makes me wonder exactly what Labour have been up to in making policy seemingly in response to / fear of the former rather than the middle group.
Why do people think England flags have been raised on lampposts?

White adults
National pride: 26%
Anti-migrant/minority sentiment: 49%
Both: 19%

Ethnic minority adults

twitter being bought and turned into a propaganda machine for fascism, which is directly pumped into every journalist in the world's brain, is one of the worst things to happen in the last few years. we might not survive it.

Which is why: we (meaning everywhere, but definitely the EU) should absolutely BAN algorithmic automated recommendations on social media. Just ban it. Let people just use filters and search for content. This is too dangerous and you cannot "regulate algorithms" in a good way. Ban them
