In Minneapolis. Structural engineer, mostly lapsed improvisor, 3 day Jeopardy! champ. Happily married to a public school teacher. Two kids, a cat, and a dog.

one thing that’s definitely new over the past decade or so is the number of bumper stickers and signs threatening to kill you

I'm in Milwaukee for a Pokemon tournament this weekend, which means that because of living in Minneapolis all my life, tonight will be the first time I will be in the same city as an MLB Division Series Game 5.

“Machado’s politics are steeped in violence. She has called for foreign intervention, even appealing directly to Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the architect of Gaza’s annihilation, to help ‘liberate’ Venezuela with bombs under the banner of ‘freedom.’”
'Peace' Has No Meaning When Right-Wingers Like Maria Corina Machado Win the Nobel Prize | Common Dreams
As Venezuelan-American, I know exactly what Machado represents: the smiling face of Washington’s regime-change machine, the polished spokesperson for sanctions, privatization, and foreign intervention...

I dunno, feels like reaching the “hiding your neighbors from the masked secret police” stage of things in like 9 months doesn’t bode well for the next couple of years.

Oh! I missed that in that penultimate paragraph! Good.

This makes me really mad, and I want this antisocial POS to get caught.

From April 8, 2025, across the street from the Justice Page Middle School parking lot.
Signs high on a telephone pole accusing Emily Koski and Angela Conley of making kids sick.

finally some of the ward 11 story can be told, thanks to jamison whiting’s campaign manager bowen- there is a man stealing jamison’s yard signs, defacing them, and putting them back up. he has done this to other politicians like emily koski, angela conley

I’m old enough to remember when the Republicans would not want to put a Qatari air force facility in Idaho.

I think that’s the thing I’m maddest at the mayor and the more conservative wing of our city for doing. The mayor didn’t need to use that time as a way to scare people during the 2021 election. That was a choice and the city’s residents have been paying for it. So we already have that as baseline.

Well that's some wildly depressing information that was not in AP's write-up

"I totally support his strategy, and I’ve said on behalf of the Venezuelan people that we are very grateful. I think it is the right thing to do. It’s courageous. It’s visionary."

Nobel Peace Prize winner hailed Trump as ‘visionary’ just days before her victory
Maria Corina Machado was given the award for promoting democracy in Venezuela and says that the US president is the country’s best chance for regime change

Between the Tolkkinen article and this, let me just note:

The biggest differentiator in elite sports is money. Money, money, money. Money.

Off season sports clubs are pricey, and you have to do them if you’re going to be the best.

But most sports aren’t elite sports because this is a straw man.

Miller gotta go.

20 paragraphs down in the NBC News story that broke the information that the administration is considering invoking the Insurrection Act is the report that Stephen Miller is driving the issue.

I knew Anders growing up at my church. He was a good guy. Disappointing to hear this approach from him.

Here's something wild: his brother is sad trombone Karl.

Yes, exactly!

I sent the whole John Muir poem from that scene on a postcard to my brother from Muir Woods last summer.

If they'd seemed like zoomers or gen xers, I'd have mentioned that too.

Tbf there's one woman in particular driving the conversation this way. Maybe the other three think she's full of shit.

It's still disorienting to encounter this crap live and in person.

Having lunch at a Culver's in Baraboo next to a table of boomer ladies whose fertile imaginations have been well commandeered by right-wing fantasia.

"These immigrants don't branch out like the past ones. They stick together in one place and take over towns, like they did in Minneapolis."
