Yeah, when I'm trying to identify the masked thugs smashing a car window and dragging a woman on her way to the doctor's out through the shattered glass, I'm sure I'll be able to get a foot or so away to scan.

Absolutely centrist Dem-brained useless pablum.
I am introducing the Quick Recognition (QR) Act, which requires ICE and CBP officers to wear uniforms featuring QR codes. When scanned, the code would generate a digital ID displaying the officer’s name, badge number, and law enforcement agency.

ICE should be unmasked both physically and digitally.

Thread. [the shorthand about her that is often uplifted on social media always does her a disservice and also does Rosa Parks one too. Glad for this thread]
Friends, Claudette Colvin—the 15-year-old who refused to give up her seat on a Montgomery bus in March 1955 & joined the federal case against bus segregation that went to the Supreme Court — died today at age 86. But there are lots of myths and mis-impressions about her. A short corrective thread:

US vetoes most Ethiopian athletes for the World Crosscountry Championships in Florida by denying their visas. Ethiopia will be unable to record a team result in either the U20 men’s or U20 women’s races, ending its 44-year medal streak.

I’m sure the Olympics and World Cup are going to be fine. 😡
U.S. denies entry to 14 Ethiopian athletes ahead of World XC Championships - Canadian Running Magazine
According to a report from LetsRun.com, only four of the 18 Ethiopian U20 athletes had their U.S. visa applications accepted

if only there had been a movement and momentum several years ago to downsize police budgets, clear out the white supremacists and de-militarize local law enforcement
The elephant in the room is that mayors and governors across the country have very good reason to question the loyalty and allegiances of the state and local police forces and that’s one of the impediments to doing anything about the current occupations

This image is from Birzeit University in the West Bank which was raided by Israel today using live ammunition and tear gas.

Over 40 people were injured, mostly students.

More than 8,000 students are trapped inside.

But it’s controversial to talk about scholasticide.

This is what happens when you elect a guy who actually bikes instead of a guy who double parks in a bike lane sideways.
Zohran just went out and fixed the Williamsburg Bridge bike entrance. Just did it. No faffing, no nonsense. Bam. Fixed.

Nina Power, for those that don’t know, is perhaps one of the few people alive in the UK you can openly call a Nazi without any fear of her suing you for libel, since she lost her suit and through legal discovery was revealed to be obsessed w/ Hitler. She still writes for the newspapers, though!
Whenever British journalists talk about including more GC voices on Bluesky, what they fail to account for is that many GCs would rather meet with open racists who agree with them on gender neutral toilets than with centrist liberals who don’t. This is from Maya Forstater’s review of the last year.

RE my last repost: "Oh, so you love criminals" is absolutely a misdirect and a trap. And also, if someone says that to me, my answer is yes, in part because there is no difference between the person I am today and the criminal I may become tomorrow.
I got to deliver a talk on the history and legacy of the Hays Code and the Comics Code, contemporary censorship efforts, and the necessity of identifying with criminality. You can watch and read the whole thing here:

I know there are a lot of
speculative fiction readers among you. If you haven’t tackled @older.bsky.social Infomocracy series, it is horribly relevant. We played with some of the same ideas in the Leverage S3 finale, political perception as reality.
in Infomocracy, an incompletely post-national cyberpunk elections book, one of the plotlines involves a political party promising revanchist revenge fantasies to a bunch of different voters. when they win, it turns out they don't deliver bloodshed but rather the media experience of victory.

Jay recognises the churches.

I recognise the bookshop furnishings. That's a Waterstones, and one with older fittings at that.
Just watched the new Knives Out and I think it's really important you know that the scene in the Seminary's Gym is filmed in the same place Rick Astley filmed the music video for Never Gonna Give You Up.

I saw the window tracery and immediately made my friends pause the film so I could tell them.

2025 was by far the strongest year ever for novels by trans writers from major publishers -- and that's before you get down to smaller presses and self-published stuff, which were also cooking. God, I hope it sustains in 2026 and beyond. A lot of these books sold well! The audience is there!

The thing to understand is no compromise would be enough for the GCs.

It is not enough that they are allowed to exclude trans people from single-sex spaces. Everyone else must be forced to do so. It is not enough that they are allowed to speak their views. Everyone else must be forced to listen.
