If we’ve got a polity whose preferences are conservative inflected democracy > actual fascism > liberal inflected democracy, then we’re already lost. But I don’t believe those are actually the preferences of the American people.

NEW: Jan Crawford's attack on SCOTUS "corruption" narrative was its own substance-free narrative.

On Face the Nation, CBS News's chief legal correspondent went after Supreme Court critics as "dangerous." And yet, her court defense was completely lacking in specifics.

My favorite bit in Pluribus was when the hivemind was desperate to see Carol write again. Because the hivemind, even with all of the collective knowledge of the human race, could not create a single piece of appreciable art.

It aligns with my belief that creativity is the fingerprint of the soul.

My beautiful friend, a nurse, died at 31 last night. Her cancer treatment was delayed because a visitor did not wear a mask and she became terribly ill for weeks with the flu or COVID and following infections. If you're wearing a mask, thank you.
Wrote about how disappointing it is that Jon Stewart punched down on people masking at @motherjones.com, when people should mind their own business and leave mask wearers be. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

“but we’re the party of good governance” which is exactly why I don’t fucking care. This is a single isolated case of fraud, being raised in bad faith by our opponents. there’s no systemic issues to address, so why should I get bogged down in this particular?
I’m sorry, but why the fuck should I care about whatever the Republicans are yelling about in Minnesota and fraud. This is what Democrats always do, we let the Republicans set the term of the debate.

Even if this guy actually stole the money, I’ve got bigger fucking problems

The funniest part is that the whole point of funding the crusades was to send your potential sources of domestic political instability (loud, violent lunatics) off on a mission where, worst case scenario, they were out of your hair for several years or, best case scenario, they died.
Far-right groups are co-opting the aesthetics of the Crusades for their own objectives, transforming an obsession with feudal justice into a campaign for a White Christian nation.
Why We Should All Be Worried About "Crusadercore"
This online trend equips young, White men with a historically bastardized visual lexicon — one that gives new credence and religious authority to far-right bigotry.

One of the biggest advantages that Republicans have over Democrats is that Republicans control a nation-wide terrorist network and Democrats do not.
This is so fucking dangerous.

directionally speaking, liberalism is just instinctively inclined to attack resource use. we have brainwashed ourselves into believing environmental impact studies and preservation tactics are a clever loophole to defeat evil. this has proven to be a dismal failure over the past 50 years
there have been multiple stories of middle school girls getting harassed with generated CP of themselves over the past few years and somehow the only AI fear that seems to stick is the fucking water

if i was more conspiratorial i'd think it's a psyop
It’s the most powerful online sexual harassment tool ever invented and it’s driving people insane with parasocial relationships but the most prominent critics lie about water use.

"And I never say no"

We need to have a serious talk about the way "AI companion" apps not only prey on the vulnerable, but are priming their users to ignore consent and to conflate love with control.

We need AI regulations across so many sectors, but this area is particularly horrifying.

You know, for some reason I hadn't considered until now that the Silicon Valley opposition to wealth taxes isn't a power thing, but a sign they're all leveraged to the gills and needing any kind of significant liquidity will topple their house of cards
ngl I'm fairly skeptical of wealth taxation but it is funny how it has tech guys suddenly saying that maybe their AI note taking app might not be worth its unicorn status

Whenever Trumpism ends I think you are going to hear a lot of talk like this about the remnants of MAGA and I think people like this need to be politely, but firmly, asked to leave.
Just thinking... we give so much attention (as we should!) to the victims of state violence, ie, people sent to CECOT.

But, we give little consideration to the psychic violence suffered by those tasked with carrying out the physical violence.

Yes, they "chose" those jobs. But...

We face a terribly difficult task: restoring power to the legislature at the expense of the executive, restraining the judiciary's attempts to defeat this, & ensuring by these means that whoever comes after the next administration cannot simply choose to undo it all.
“America is dangerously close to a world in which all federal policy hinges on the outcomes of presidential elections, no matter how narrow the margin of victory,” Zachary S. Price argues:
Trump’s Power Grab Over the Budget Is Breaking the Constitutional Design
If this pattern holds, the result will be more wild swings in policy across administrations.

So much of the issues related to transit governance is downstream from the fact that both the boards of these agencies and many of advocates in this space believe that transit is a welfare program that acts as “transportation of last resort” as opposed to a viable, affordable alternative to cars.
The equity case for infrequent buses at low fares only makes sense if you believe low income people’s time has no value or that they don’t value their time.
Every transit professional knows this, but equity

why are there rarely articles written about liberals in red state urban centers (e.g. Salt Lake City) being gerrymandered into some rural conservative representative?

there is a reason that Trump is striking out in front of his own district court judges and that the Heritage Foundation is imploding. it's because this isn't true. people have been saying this for years. they were right for Gettier case reasons.
