Steve Murdoch is an academic and writer. He is author on the history of Scotland and the Wider World in general and of Scotland and Scandinavia in particular. His monographs include Britain, Denmark-Norway and the House of Stuart, 1603-1660 (2000/2003); Network North: Scottish Kin, Commercial and Covert Associations in Northern Europe, 1603-1746 (2006) and the book The Terror of the Seas? Scottish Maritime Warfare, 1513-1713 (2010). In 2014 he published the co-authored book Alexander Leslie and the Scottish Generals of the Thirty Years' War, 1618-1648. He has edited several volumes including Scotland and the Thirty Years' War, 1618-1648 (2000) and with Alexia Grosjean Scottish Communities Abroad in the Early Modern Period (2005). This same pairing created the Scotland, Scandinavia and Northern European Biographical Database (SSNE). .. more

The Trump administration's abduction of a head of state throws into question the future of international law https://aje.news/8k2ill
World Wars I and II killed about 100 million people combined. To avoid a third world war, they made some rules. But in recent years, those rules have increasingly been ignored. And United States President Donald Trump just took it to another level, one that many say may help upend the international rules-based order intended to keep us safe. The rules include the United Nations Charter, signed in 1945. It bans the use of force against any state unless it is in self-defence or approved by the UN Security Council. The year prior, 44 countries signed the Bretton Woods Economic Order to mitigate destabilising financial crises. It created the IMF and the World Bank. Similarly, humanitarian law and war crimes were laid out in the Nuremberg Charter in 1945 and the Geneva Conventions of 1949.

Sunday, at least 7 ICE agents stormed a house and took an elderly man out into the freezing cold, wearing only his underwear and a blanket.

He was a member of the Hmong community, which came to the area from Laos in the 1970s after siding with the US in the Vietnam War.

It was only ever paused after Thatcher's purge, then education devalued ever since with "Students" ( or pupils in old money) all getting 6, 8, 10 A levels at A grade. Nope, no grade inflation here, move along....

They'll be scrapping Thirds and 2:2 degrees next .... oh, hold on!
