Perpetually exhausted, dad, husband, tech. Doesn't write as much as he should. (he/him)

This year, I'm taking part in the busted-halo.bsky.social Advent Photo Challenge, #BHAdvent25, buff.ly/6tYFMlq.
Yesterday's prompt was WREATH and, although it's not strictly a photo, this picture is usually my starter for ten.

I find it hard to draw birds because the damn things are small and simply won't keep still. However, that has not stopped me. Stuff on my website featuring birds…

Everyone knows Odin has a connection to ravens. But I'm pretty sure Loki has friends in the wider corvid community.

Strange how all of these Reform characters keep turning out to be racists. Of course, it’s too early to say if there’s a pattern developing. Just bad luck I suppose.

The idols of the nations are copper and silicon,
made by human hands.
They generate, but cannot write;
imitate, but cannot create.
They give advice but cannot think,
nor is there breath in their mouths.
Those who make them become like them,
and so will all who trust in them.

Actually the saddest thing of all is that there is any need to debate any of this. Trans people are just people. Their lives, their very existence is not up for debate. There is no evidence AT ALL to back up ANY concerns that GC people have about trans women in "female spaces".

No-strings-attached, zero-means-testing, no-questions-asked cash payouts have been proven, over and over again, to be the most effective form of charity/aid going.

It gets people in housing, and it saves the state money. We know this. It's fact, not theory.
An Oregon pilot program giving cash to homeless youths sees a staggering reduction in homelessness. The program gave participants $1,000 cash payments each month for two years, and at the end of the project's first phase, 91% of participants reported being in stable housing.

Let me reframe this: perhaps we should not discourage them, as it might also discourage disabled people from seeking accommodations out of fear that they will be accused of faking their disability; or, they will refrain from seeking accommodations out of fear of "not being disabled enough."
Balancing "no person with a disability should be denied accommodations" with "it's important to discourage non-disabled people from pretending to be disabled to take advantage of these accommodations" is really difficult and I don't have a great answer for what anyone should do about it.

Slightly misleading headline - they haven't been scrapped yet, but the govt are planning to (which I knew but the headline made me think they'd passed the legislation).
Still, dreadful idea.
I'm not planning to be tried for any such crimes, but, well fuck, this doesn't seem like a good idea.

Today the news will be about the government's proposals for juries.

Please read this thread so as to be informed about the actual practical problems in the criminal justice system - problems which will not be solved by this misconceived and illiberal tinkering.
Here is a list of reasons why some of my hearings and trials this year have been delayed and kicked off into the long grass, stuck in our record court backlog. Serious allegations which will now be tried *years* after the event. 🧵👇

When I was a Subdeacon, one of the priests in the parochial house said his two main daily prayers started with: “Well Lord this is all a mess … “ and “Dear Lord, keep my fists by my side through this day’s ignorance and strife …” After a few months, I understood why.
