In the early ‘90s, I was walking through Central Park, talking to a friend, when I ran into James Spader. As in, collided with. I quickly apologized, realized who it was, and told him how much I loved him in Stargate. He did not seem as pleased with our interaction.

Deciding when to recess the House to "district work periods" isn't some inherent or longstanding power of the Speaker. It was only added to the rules for the first time in this Congress. Otherwise this would have required the full House to vote on it, which could have been defeated.
As expected, in order to avoid a vote on extension of the ACA, Mike Johnson is gaveling the House into recess.
