This is also a great way to meet other people who care about the same things you do! Love seeing someone at a trans rights vigil and being like “Oh hey! We met yelling at the school board, how’s it going?”
I really can't emphasize enough that if you care about local politics, all you gotta do is show up. Just a regular schmegular person showing up. Literally just show up consistently in person and within a remarkably short amount of time, you will have a shocking amount of influence.

Every novel is a game the reader and the writer agree to play together, but some novels require more agreement than others. INVISIBLE CITIES really asks you to buy in. How to describe it?

I could tell you, I suppose, that it's a dreamy travelogue of invented cities—

A not insignificant part of the fatalistic adoption of AI in Higher Ed, I think, is because we have stripped thinking, learning, reading, writing from the idea of pleasure; it has become pure utilitarian product, rather than joyful--and difficult--process.

So, the anti-planner is a fantastic value at full price, and the $15 PDF bundle is a straight up steal.

Plus, Dani Donovan is the source of probably half of the really good diagrams about ADHD that get passed around the net with artist credit removed, so it's a good chance to balance some scales.

On a related note: my work is doing double matching today, so I'm donating to the Farley Foundation. A couple years ago I saw a news story on a similar place in BC that helps with vet costs so people didn't have to surrender their pets. Farley is the Ontario version.

yeah the harsh reality is that we do take a chance on small games no one's heard of a lot more often than anyone thinks we do. but literally no one reads the articles, which then reinforces to the powers that be that they're not worth doing. I don't know how to solve that problem!

2. My voice is not some singular thing - bike advocacy is a small part of my makeup-you don’t like me or my position on things refer to point 1

I will still be working on personal creative projects, but at my own pace.

If you'd like to support me financially, I made a bundle of all my paid stuff: itch.io/s/171477/sup...

A lot of people are saying "why don't you just fail them?" which absolutely makes sense as a solution if you don't understand university teaching as (often precarious) labor done by humans within a system with really effed up dynamics.
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

This is profoundly stupid
"Irish author Sally Rooney has told the High Court it is 'almost certain' she cannot publish new novels in the UK and may have to withdraw her current books because of the banning of Palestine Action under terrorism laws."

“When we critique AI, we should do so with intellectual honesty and in a principled way. Utmost care is needed to avoid ethics washing, greenwashing, and generally — what we dub — critical washing.”
“Reflecting on the harms of AI is not itself harm reduction. It may even contribute to rationalizing, normalizing, and enabling harm. Critical reflection without appropriate action is thus quintessentially critical washing.”

Yesterday the CBC ran a story about how violent crime i on the rise on public transit systems. It generally peaked during the depths of the pandemic and then plateaued, but at a higher average rate than before. It’s worth exploring, but the journo only interviewed ppl promoting more law enforcement.
