The notion rich people aren't greedy is the most refuted hypothesis in the world.
Hey, remember when people used to say Trump wouldn’t be bought or corruptly influenced by wealthy interests because he was already so rich? That was fun.
Here's a plain-spoken and accessible editorial - based in part on @reuters.com reporting - that outlines how much Donald Trump has enriched himself since taking power, and why that's so dangerous for democracy.

JACOB FREY: I don't regret it at all. If I seemed like I was angry and frustrated, I was.

the sort of liminal space american politics exists in rn — a fed govt that *wants to be* fascist and *is* doing a ton of violence/damage but is also very clearly outnumbered and losing battles left and right in elections, courts, the streets — is i think hard for a lot of us to get our heads around
ICE can't even deal with irate middle-aged midwesterners. how does he occupy hundreds, if not thousands, of polling cites and precincts? trump v. illinois clarified that he has no legal authority to unilaterally commandeer national guards, how does he move forward from there?

Whenever someone says they are “neither right nor left,” prepare to discover that they are so far right it will take your lovely breath away.
I wrote book reviews for a while for the WSJ well over a decade ago, and Bari Weis was my editor. One of her special tricks was to try to insert a sharp rightward slant into my essays *after* it had been copy edited, as a way of slipping her viewpoint in at the last minute.

I am sympathetic to her desire to make the news more engaging and approachable, but inasmuch as her suggestions to make it more engaging and approachable appear to make it biased and servile, either she doesn't know how to do the first, or the second was actually always the not-so-covert goal.

lots of political space to convert those “not sures” into somewhat supports and those “somewhat supports” into strongly supports on eliminating ICE. also, with a funding battle coming up, plenty of political space to say “no government funding unless we claw back last year’s new ICE funding”
This YouGov poll on ICE is really eye-opening. Public opinion has really swung against DHS/ICE and their terror regime.

I wish I had an argument to this type of thinking, but I’ve got nothing. I do think an undersold value to Democrats opposing Trump on every front (like some still inexplicably voting to confirm his nominees) is to show the rest of the world there is a pulse in the opposition.

There is no amount of training that will turn racist secret police into anything other than racist secret police. ICE as an agency is illegitimate, full stop.
Chris Murphy: "The amount of training that's given to an ICE officer has been cut in half by this administration. The number of days of training they get are 47. You know why they get 47 days? As an homage to the vanity of POTUS. No wonder the number of violent incidents are going through the roof."

This is insane. Brooks says everyone is too blinded by ideology to see the truth of what the video shows. Then the host asks him what it shows and he refuses to answer.

“Left and right are equally to blame for everything all the time” is also an ideology!

I can help clarify things for David French.

Jonathan Ross is a human. Renee Good was a human. Then Ross shot her three times.

Good is dead and Ross, while still a human, is a murderer. The only person who failed to recognize their humanity is Ross, not the people outraged by his violence.
French another moralist who can’t go beyond both-sides in this moment

The fact we have clear video evidence of the ICE murder and they’re lying about it should put a nail in the coffin for “the truth speaks for itself.”

We all need to be advocates for the truth, most of all elected leaders.
