My favourite kind of autumn day, bright and warm in the sun, tempered with a cool breeze. Leaves starting to turn and fall.
Happy autumn equinox!

UK folks - don’t forget to check you have the meds you need for the Chrimbo period

And remember there are processes (incl. NHS 111) to get emergency supplies of repeat prescriptions

This isn't even designed to wind people up and hope they share it. It's just an exploitation of Birmingham Live's privileged position on Google Discover/Apple News. The whole point is to deceive people into clicking. An industry built on total contempt for its audience.
Another datapoint for @jim.londoncentric.media's list of misleading Reach headlines:

"Alert for UK households buying Cathedral City cheese at M&S or Tesco"

The "alert" is that... other cheeses came out ahead in an independent taste test.

Of all the sins of AI, this is an unexpected and deeply annoying one
Funny animal videos no longer being trustworthy just fucking sucks all around. I love the wonder of animal behavior and what it says about the experience of being alive. It's because it happened in reality that it's so fun. It's not fun if it was just made up. There's no wonder there.

Sarah Falls gave a great presentation recently at the Digital Archives in the Commonwealth Summit about the challenges the Library of Virginia is facing from hallucinogenic AI patron requests, pointing to the increased labor load required to vet requests and then work with patrons seeking ghosts.
More coverage. The Library of Virginia says 15% of patron requests are AI hallucinations. What's worse, patrons get mad & think they're lying & hiding books! Even worse yet, these are creeping into scientific and MEDICAL studies & reports. Hmm...what could go wrong? 😵

I won a duck!

(Went out for team Christmas meal and then a place that does fairground-style games).

Apparently my skills lie in the bean-bag toss, water pistols, and hooking ducks.

Feels like it (the duck) needs a Taskmaster-related name... 🤔

In an effort at something good on the internet today: A thread on Mr KJC, gingerbread architect of the early 21st century.

Mr KJC got his beginnings like so many gingerbread architects: with a kit house for the kids. Kind of fun but the premade pieces are dry and nasty, only technically edible.

“He lives here” we were told, as if the church had had no say in the matter and his presence pre-dated the building. “He’s named Budge because he doesn’t budge. He thinks the water is left for him”
