Imagine people discussing some principle while referring only to men They are biased but less than if they spent their time arguing it can't apply to women

I strongly opposed framing #women 's migration as #CareDrain & loss to children left behind because

1️⃣it relies on sexist #stereotypes
2️⃣devalues #care work
3️⃣prevents us from understanding #skills in #migration

There is a more pressing issue. Ministers must ensure that the vast numbers of immigrants who arrived in the so-called Boriswave of 2020-21 are not automatically absorbed into the permanent population. They are about to cross the the five-year threshold into ILR, yet Labour continues to dither. Ms Mahmood must freeze the status of this huge cohort while a new residency regime is finalised. A million or more extra permanent residents in these islands, let in on the nod, is simply unacceptable. Finally, the home secretary must acquaint herself, and the public, with an accurate estimate of the actual number of foreign nationals living here, what taxes they pay and what services they consume. Without hard data, all the political parties are fumbling around in the dark.

But from a cosmopolitan normative point of view, it is clearly not the opening of borders that requires specific justification, but keeping them closed. ⬇️

I've argued in a little blog post (in German) back in 2013 that, in the long run, there is no good argument to have free movement at a national or European, but not at a global level.

But even some national constitutions connect free movement to certain conditions ... ⬇️
