Over the last 20 years, from taking people’s aux cords in cars, to fiddling with jukeboxes to adding Enya songs to my instagram stories ironically, I think I have brainwashed myself into sincerely liking Enya. This is so fucked up.

counter take: we will deeply regret not having put down another 4-5x solar plants this decade
hot take: in 10-20 years, large solar fields on Earth’s surface will be seen as environmental poison, cutting down forests in exchange for a less efficient energy source

maybe longer, we’d also have to figure out more ways to consume power far from Earth while still benefiting from it here
Google plans on launching TPU racks into space in 2027

Google will start launching “tiny racks of machines” in satellites in 2027, with a ~10-year outlook where space data centers become “normal,” framed around energy constraints and solar power.

The traditions of Drone Crashmas live on
My 16 year old nephew got a drone for Christmas and brought it to my parents’ house to fly around. After lunch he went outside and got it flying. It went to the northeast. It kept going. He didn’t know how to make it come back. We think it dropped somewhere in the pasture. 🤷‍♀️

Movie too few people have seen? Tokyo Godfathers.

Classic that isn't watched as much anymore? The Lion in Winter.

Newest movie that deserves more eyeballs? The Apology.

Movie everybody's seen but people are too negative about? It's A Wonderful Life.
What's the most tragically underrated Christmas movie of all time?

It is ALWAYS a mechanical turk, it is ALWAYS human beings being pressured to do more work for less wages. Every single goddamn time.
MIT’s NANDA initiative found that 95% of generative AI deployments fail after interviewing 150 execs, surveying 350 workers, and analyzing 300 projects. The real “productivity gains” seem to come from layoffs and squeezing more work from fewer people not AI.
MIT report: 95% of generative AI pilots at companies are failing
There’s a stark difference in success rates between companies that purchase AI tools from vendors and those that build them internally.
