Volgens Van Weel varen er Russische en Chinese onderzoeksschepen bij Groenland, maar hij kan niet zeggen waar hij dat op baseert. Scandinavische diplomaten met toegang tot de veiligheidsbriefing van de NAVO zeggen tegen de Financial Times dat daar al jaren geen sprake van is.

Sommige politici claimen dat niet vuurwerk maar een gezagscrisis het probleem is. Het doet denken aan de VS, waar de vuurwapenlobby zegt: wapens doden geen mensen, mensen doden mensen. In Nederland wordt dat: vuurwerk veroorzaakt geen overlast, mensen veroorzaken overlast.

On that last post: I genuinely cannot think of any good-faith reason to bar international adoptions from those 39 countries. Under this new ban, consulates will refuse adoption visas for any baby from Cuba, Haiti, Venezuela, Nigeria, or any of the 39 other countries.

Het speelveld voor het mobiliseren van regeerkracht en stabiliteit is door de opkomst van het populisme al klein. De VVD onder Yesilgöz maakt het door haar blokkadepolitiek nog kleiner. De kleingeestige machtsdrift rond de Hofvijver is altijd groter dan het landsbelang.
